about

The duo formed by Massaron and Corini is the natural consequence of a years-long artistic collaboration of the two musicians. Their project was born during their activity in the collective “El Gallo Rojo”, one of the most interesting realities in the Italian music scene of the last decade.
Corini and Massaron love melodies and they don’t always worry about the form that contains it.
Family is a record that intends to represent their love for music and their musical heroes: Charlie Haden and Ornette Coleman are first in line, but also early 1900s songs – well represented by Amapola – and folk and popular music by Llobet and Takemitsu.
Thanks to Stefano Castagna, sound engineer and producer of Family, the duo pays homage also to the 80s ECM, looking sometimes to that sound that was essential to the musical evolution of the two musicians.
It was indeed Castagna’s sound research and creativity that made Massaron and Corini use the recording studio as musical instrument both recording and mixing. All the recorded and processed sounds, like those in the wonderful version of Amapola where reverb is obtained from the resonance of a piano, determine the colours of this picture of memories and homages that Giulio Corini and Simone Massaron use for dealing with their heroes, like members of an imaginary musical family.
